Valery Gergiev

Born in Moscow, Valery Gergiev studied conducting at the Leningrad Conservatory and at the age of 24 won the Herbert von Karajan Conductors' Competition. He has spent the past 20 years as Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Gergiev is currently Principal Conductor of the LSO, Principal Guest Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera and Principal Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
